Playerunknown's battlegrounds: Review

Are you looking for a game that is both intense, challenging and extremely fun? Then stick around for our review of Playerunknown's battlegrounds!

Before we begin please let me make it clear that Playerunknown's battlegrounds is still in early access, and that everything currently in the game is subject to change.

PUBG or Playerunknown's battlegrounds is a battle royal inspired game developed/published by Bluehole along side with Brendan Greene also known as the Playerunknown. Even though Playerunknown's battlegrounds is still in early access, they have managed to create a groundbreaking online shooter. Every game starts the same way, but battlegrounds have managed to make every single game feel unique from the start.

Gameplay

The game starts off by about 100 players jumping from a plane on to the island of Erangel, from here the players objective is to scavenge for loot and kill other players. There is action right from the start of the game till it ends. To make sure that players don't camp out the whole match, players are forced to move to even smaller and more open areas as a deadly force field closes in.

How you choose to approach the game is up to you. You might prioritize getting to the center of the circle, move slowly on the border of the forcefield as it closes or camp out in a house until you are forced to move, the possibilities are endless!

To make sure the game ends at some point the forcefield will keep shrinking until players die outside the play zone or are killed by other players, the winning team or player will receive the following message: "winner winner chicken dinner", which has no meaning to it other than it sounds good.

Weapons:

Playerunknown's battlegrounds offer a wide variety of weapons to choose from, there are currently:
  • 20 main weapons
  • 4 pistols
  • 4 grenades
  • 4 melee weapons

I'm going to go over some of the weapons from different categories.

AKM is a powerful assault rifle that uses the 7.62 class of ammunition. This rifle does more damage than the 5.56 AR's but with a side effect of having much more recoil. It is best used in single shot mode unless you are breaching buildings with it, which it is not intended for.

Kar98k this is currently the only bolt-action sniper rifle that drops normally on maps and sometimes in air-drops. as the other sniper rifles only comes in air drops. Because of this, the Kar98k is usually a very good weapon for long-range engagements without having the risk of going to air drops for sniper rifles.

M249 is currently the only LMG in the game, it fires the 5.56 mm NATO cartridge ammo.
The M249 currently only comes in air drops, and it seems there's a good reason to this because with its 100 rounds magazine and high fire rate the M249 is a god tier weapon if used correctly.

UMP is currently 1 of 3 SMGs in the game, the UMP fires 9mm rounds and is the perfect weapon for close combat because of its high fire rate and plenty of attachments that go with it.

S1897 The S1897 excels in clearing houses with quick and easy use. Caution is to be taken as missing one shot can easily spell out your death due to the pump action. This shotgun is a firm reminder that in real life, shotguns tend to shoot farther than most people estimate them to. Do not be afraid to take shots at people at a decent range away.

Pan A cast-iron pan purpose built for cooking up hate for your enemies. In game the pan is capable of killing an unarmored opponent in two hits on the body or one hit to the head. The pan will also block bullets fired at players while equipped and while unequipped, allowing it to act as a small shield.

Graphics

Playerunknown's battlegrounds use the unreal engine 4 which generally makes the game look really good, it also makes the weather have a big impact in the game. If it rains the map will feel foggy and gloomy making it hard to hear and see other players, this forces you to change the way you play the game which in general makes the experience feel unique.

Pros/Cons

Pros
  • Fun
  • Large map
  • Lots of ways to approach the game
  • Balanced weapons system
Cons
  • Bugs lots of bugs
  • Crashes a lot
  • Requires a good computer to run
  • Jumping in the game might piss you off at some point.

Final comment

Oh man! I can't wait to see where Bluehole brings this game, it's so much fun to play and it's only in early access, it's going to be exciting to see what weapons they will bring into the game, or how the new map that was announced some time ago will play out. Over all, I was really satisfied with the Playerunknown's battlegrounds experience.

Crysis 3 - Review

Then we are back, with a gam1st person shooter game, that is based on a sci-fi world after the war against the aliens. You'll be playing as the Prophet, a human who chose to become a Special Nano Soldier who have the options to become invisible, and go into armor form and a lot other cool stuff.

Lets start with the gameplay & graphics.

Gameplay & Graphics

If you’re looking for a game that can push your PC to the absolute limit you should really try out Crysis 3. The graphics already shows amazing things from the first missions, where you be able to see the amazing quality. Crysis 3 is probaly the best graphically game i played.
Gameplay remains unchanged if you tried the other Crysis, but the Nanosuit still gives you a freedom to approach with Armour either in a stealthy or an all guns open front assault. Prophet can now use a composite bow, which is fired silently without draining your energy. There is also different arrow heads that let you electrocute enemies, cause explosions although the ammo is limited, you can retrieve your arrows from fallen enemies.

When the bow comes up Crysis 3 shows its potential - each new area becomes a puzzle, letting you work out the best way to pick off a patrolling CELL group without being spotted or letting them alert the others. Moving forward while staying undetected is immensely satisfying, and arguably more fun than getting directly into gunfights. The Seph aliens are rarely tackled using the same tactics, but they present their own unique gameplay opportunities – Prophet is able to use their own weapons against them, turning the tables with monstrously powerful plasma rifles and snipers that fire lightning bolts of explosive energy.

Of course there’s a multiplayer component to keep us gamers happy once were done with the storyline, with several new game modes designed to take advantage of the new silent arsenal. Hunter is the highlight, putting two players in Nanosuits against up to 14 CELL soldiers with traditional weapons. Armed with bows and permanently invisible, the hunters have to take down the enemy team within the time limit. The twist? Once you die, you join the hunters until there’s only one CELL soldier remaining. Whoever stays alive the longest wins the game.

Sounds

The sounds are realistic, and their focus on sounds been great. But i think that the music sometimes is going to high, and then you cant hear the Prophet speak or the command you get from the mission. But then you have this awesome binoculars, that you can just hold it over the object and it guides you what to do.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Advantages

  • You can complete the missions the way you feel like.
  • Multiplayer is awesome.
  • The campaign is well done.
  • You get the feeling of being invincible.
  • The graphics are marvelous.

Disadvantages

  • Could have done it a bit better with the weapons.

Final Comment

If you've got the PC to run it at the highest quality settings, Crysis 3 is easily one of the best-looking games around the market though that Metro may be a option too. This have truly blown many gamers, and it probably get old soon, but Games are for to be older and thats why new appears. If there will be a Crysis 4 which there probably wont, then i would buy it. The campaign is filled with explosive and looks phenomenal, which is one of the reason I recommend this game to gamers who like to become overpowered, and want to be in open fight a lot. This game have taken the top for me in 2013, but maybe another game will top it this year?

Planetside 2 - Review

This time i will take a look at the game Planetside 2. There have been a lot of positive talking about it while it was in beta, and also after the release. I've been playing around with the game and i must say that it's a really great game. I've enjoyed alot of time in the space as Vanu Sovereignty and Terran Republic, even though people say you have to be loyal for your race, did i choose to try out two of the three races anyways. The last one is New Conglomerate.

Gameplay

The gameplay in Planetside 2 consists of the three races or clans who is in constant fight on three continents. The clans have to work together like a real team, since the whole game, other than being a normal FPS (First Person Shooter) with tanks, planes, cars, etc., it's also a strategy game, you have to take over bases to expand your territory, on same time you also have to defend your own bases so the opponents what get them. The rounds can take really long time, and when i'm saying really long time, i do mean it, i've seen some keep going for a whole weeks. I think it's a plus, it makes you feel like you are in a real war. I've been playing for hours every day, and i could use more if i had the time. I felt like the polictican who controlled the war, but also the private in the match. When you are playing you can choose between 5 classes (actually 6, but the last one is a bit weird).

  1. Infiltrator - Basicly a sniper/spy
  2. Light Assault - Fast running soldier. Light weapons and light gear
  3. Combat Medic - A bit like Light Assault, but doesn't do so much damage, but instead are you able to revive and heal your friends
  4. Engineer - Being like Light Assault and fixing the vehicles
  5. Heavy Assault - A bit slower than the Light Assault and with heavier weapons but does more damage
  6. MAX - This the special one, you can't spawn as this but you have to buy it in the base within you go to war. Imagine Iron Man, but bigger and better. Thats the MAX Suit, and it hurts as hell.
The controlling of the soldiers are like in every other FPS games, not as realistic as in Battlefield 3, but Planetside 2 have been developed with a quite smaller amount of resources than Battlefield. The controls of the vehicles are easy to dive into. When talking airborne vehicles, i always suck at it, but in Planetside 2 it was easy and i had no problems learning to fly (i believe i can fly.. I belive i can touch the sky!)

Graphics

The graphic in the game is okay, not more and not less, but compared to the scale of the universe you're playing in, i think it's quite fair. It's obvious that the main focus have been the characters, the big bases and the vehicles, as the other graphics ain't in same quality. A quite cool thing is that there is high quality planets and stars in the sky, that really makes you feel like you are in the space.

Advantages/Disadvantages

Advantages:

  • It's free
  • A lot of hours entertainment with friends and strangers
  • Big world
  • First Person Shooter and Strategy game on same time
Disadvantages:
  • Takes a bit of time to get used to the gameplay
  • Bugs when trying to change continent
  • No voicechat in your sqaud/clan

Final Comment

Planetside is a great game for everyone who likes FPS games, but on same time also likes strategy, as it's a big part of the game. Personally i would have given 20 bucks, if Sony chose to make it cost. For those who waited for the game to be finished, can easy be glad, it's a really great game that you can play for hours.
Planetside 2 is on Steam for free, so what are you waiting for?
