World War Z - Review

20.00.00

Because of the release of the DVD and Blu-Ray version of World War Z in Denmark, Paramount Pictures sent us the Blu-Ray edition, so we could review it. Over a busy Christmas, we finally had time to finish the review. Find press-information in the bottom of the post.

Introduction

Once upon a time it was said: ”Mother Nature is a serial killer, but as every serial killer she haves a hidden desire to get busted, and therefore she leaves a trail of tracks wherever she goes.”
Only Brad Pitt, who, already 13 years ago, had to catch a serial killer in the movie ‘Se7en’, is able to follow this trail and reveal even the biggest killers.
The movie is based on the novel ‘World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War’ is a 2006 apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks. It is a follow-up to his 2003 satirical survival manual, ‘The Zombie Survival Guide’, but is much more serious in its tone, and Marc Forster made this serious book into a good movie and with the music by Marco Beltrami, you will experience quality for the ears, throughout the whole movie.

The plot

In the role as former UN-Agent, Gerry Lane, does Brad Pitt have to find the solution to the virus riddle, which Mother Nature started, to remove those tracks that she already left. The virus transforms infected people to a kind of zombies, who attack every single victim they see. Society breaks down in no time, and the most of the world population is transformed into brain-dead zombies.
But not only does he have to find out how to cure the virus, before it is too late for the fast decreasing population. He also haves to save his wife and two daughters, one of them have asthma.

Final comment

Even though there are a lot of great things about this movie released in the summer 2013, there is things that seems a bit too much in the favor of Gerry Lane, the politicians haves an unnatural reaction on the virus, as the epidemic have been known for a while in other parts of the world. Gravity not always working as it would have been in the real world and stuff like this. It doesn’t “destroy” the movie, and can with a bit of good will and some fantasy, be convincing enough to make the experience for those watching, as good as Paramount Pictures of course hope to serve.
I have seen a lot of movies, and World War Z, is not in my top 10. Because of two things:
  1. We already have tons of movies in this genre, and I would like to see something new. I just feel like there is missing something, that really makes this movie unique and worth to watch, because we have never seen something like that.
  2. I’m not a big fan of zombies, dark scenes, and scary plots.

But if you are into zombie movies, and wants 116 minutes of action, tension, love, and scary scenes. Then World War Z would be a good movie to watch!
