Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel - Review
18.00.00Thanks to Sony Playstation, we got our hands on Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel a third person shooter setting focus on teamwork.
Gameplay
What you do in Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel is basicly to fight a cartel, a drug-dealers empire, helping the local president to get everything under control. You are a team of two persons, and can play online, split-screen or alone. The best thing is split-screen, as you play together with a friend and can coordinate everything, (if both players have a headset, online will work fine, too). Teamplay and coordination is exactly what Army of TWO is all about. As you are only two persons against many, it needs to work out.The game is only missions, and not openworld, so you have to follow the storyline. This means that there are also a bunch of cinematics that at points, can be long and boring, if you don't like this element in games, but when that is said, the gameplay is amazing, and you can make some great combos alone, and even more amazing combos together with your friend or partner.
Everytime you complete a mission you get awarded with money and item-unlocks, you'll be able to see your and your partners stats for the mission, a small, but neat feature.
In the armory is it possible to buy new clothes, get tatoos, masks, etc. And the coolest feature in the armory must be the weapon part, where you can buy and upgrade new weapons. Now, "upgrade" may sound a bit boring, but actually are you able to change every single part of the weapon, to make it perfect for the thing you want to use it for. If it have to do lot of damage, then you can buy parts for that, or maybe if it is a machine gun, that needs to be more precise on longer ranges, it's all up to you.
Overall, some great features in the gameplay.
Graphics
The graphics in Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel are okay. It would be a lie if we said they were as good as in some of the games we reviewed recently, like Crysis 3 or Sleeping Dogs. Some of the places you get dissapointed, is for example when cars explode or burn, it doesn't seems to affect the look of the car even a bit. No colorchange, no scratches, and this is not only in the game itself, but also in the cinematics, where it normally is a better visual experience than what you see in the game.
Afterall, not really a hooray-experience with the graphics.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Advantages
- Amazing teamplay opportunities
- Good story
- Interactive world
- Armory and what it included
Disadvanages
- Graphics needs improvement
- Long and many cinematics
- Weird physics at points
Final comment
So what we have here, is a game with a great gameplay, where the important teamplay, and the good story makes up for the not so satisfying graphics and physics.
In the end it is the gameplay that is important, and therefore we really enjoyed playing Army of TWO: The Devil's Cartel, and most of you will certainly do so, too!
